Comparison & Standing Firm

ree

Comparison is like a poisonous virus, spreading around the world, poisoning people’s minds to think that they’re not good enough, not skilled enough, not loved, not appreciated, etc.

And just like any other virus, it affects all ages and spreads fast when not prevented or treated.

“Prevention is better than cure.”
– Desiderius Erasmus

I have to deal with this virus sometimes, doing what I must to refute it and not allow the thoughts to take root into my system. Sometimes the thoughts will enter, getting into my mind and trying to spread to other thoughts. But when they try to, I recognize its symptoms and respond with, not white blood cells, but the cleansing and treating of God’s Word, presence, and prayer.

There are two sides of dealing with comparison:

1. Treatment

For viruses that affect the physical body, there are vaccines, medicines, and tools in the hospital if things get very hard to treat at home.

For our minds, after examining what’s going on, we treat the “comparison germs” by being (1) vaccinated with the Word of God. This allows His Word and power to be in our systems and ready to fight against the lies when they try to penetrate us. It keeps us cleansed and pure.

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”
Psalm 119:9

(2) Be filled with the good medicine of the fruit of the Spirit. They’re already called fruit, so make sure you eat your spiritual fruit;)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23

(3) Use the tools or weapons the Spirit has given you to fight back, including the Word of God.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Ephesians 6:10-11
